According to the FDA, when manufacturers claim a food has “no added sugars,” it cannot be processed with any sugar or sugar-containing ingredients, though it can have sugar alcohol or artificial sweeteners. Products without added sugar can contain naturally occurring sugar. All Halo Healthy Tribe products have no added sugar and is sweetened with Blossom, a proprietary mixture of all natural Erythritol and monk fruit.
Plant powered or plant based is a diet that emphasizes the consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds. Plant powered includes both vegan or vegetarian diets.
Halo Healthy Tribes plant powered products fall either within vegan or vegetarian diets. Vegan and vegetarian diets are well researched and experts say adhering to this lifestyle can decrease the risk of diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and certain cancers. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, an appropriately planned vegan or vegetarian diet is suitable for all stages of life.
Carb-Careful is a product designation that suggests the item has low carbohydrates. A “low carb” diet is food plan that restricts carbohydrates, such as those found in sugary foods, pasta and bread. It is often high in protein, fat and healthy vegetables. There are many different types of low-carb diets, and studies show that they can cause weight loss and improve health. All Halo Healthy Tribe products are Carb-Careful and have no processed carbs also known as refined carbs or simple carbs. Refined carbs are found in foods that have been heavily processed to remove many of the other nutrients they normally carry. These foods include white flour, added sugars and sweeteners, white rice, and many other refined ingredients. Typically these simple, refined carbs are easily processed by the body, and will often cause a quick spike in blood sugar levels.
Yes, all Halo Healthy Tribe products are gluten-free. Gluten is a protein found in many grains, including wheat, barley and rye. It’s common in foods such as bread, pasta, pizza and cereal. Gluten provides no essential nutrients. People who are gluten sensitive or who have with celiac disease have an immune reaction that is triggered by eating gluten. Halo Healthy Tribes products are Gluten-Free and are clearly marked in the Halo as such.

The FDA has considered the term “natural” to mean that nothing artificial or synthetic (including all color additives regardless of source) has been included in, or has been added to, a food that would not normally be expected to be in that food. All Halo Healthy Tribe products are all natural.

Celiac disease is a serious autoimmune disease that occurs in genetically predisposed people where the ingestion of gluten leads to damage in the small intestine. It is estimated to affect 1 in 100 people worldwide.
The concept of net carbs is based on the principle that not all carbohydrates affect the body in the same manner.Net carbs are the carbohydrates in food that you can digest and use for energy. To calculate net carbs, take a food’s total carbs and subtract the Fiber amount. Since our body doesn’t have the enzymes to break down fiber, it passes through our digestion system unchanged. Some carbohydrates, like simple or refined starches and sugars, are absorbed rapidly and have a high glycemic index, meaning they cause blood sugar levels to quickly rise after eating. Excess simplecarbohydrates are stored in the body as fat. Examples of these include potatoes, white bread, white rice, and sweets. Other carbohydrates, such as the fiber found in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, move slowly through the digestive system, and much of it isn’t digested at all (insoluble fiber). Fiber and sugar alcohols have a minimal effect on blood sugar. All Halo Healthy Tribes products display the amount of Net Carbs on the front label.
Part of the Halo Healthy Tribes family of brands, Blossom® is a proprietary, all natural, plant based brand of zero calorie sweetener. A combination of Erythritol and Monk Fruit, all Halo Healthy Tribe products contain it.
Monk fruit sweetener is extracted from monk fruit. The monk fruit is also known as luo han guo or “Buddha fruit.” It’s a small, round fruit grown in Southeast Asia. This fruit has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine. Monk fruit sweetener is zero calories but may be 100–250 times sweeter than table sugar. To help with sweetness, Halo Healthy Tribes created Blossom, an all-natural plant based sweetener that combines monk fruit and erythritol to reduce intense sweetness.
Erythritol is a zero calorie natural sweetener that is used as a sugar substitute. Considered a sugar alcohol, small intestines absorb it quickly so it doesn’t have a chance to “metabolize” — turn into energy in your body. It’s also OK for people with diabetes as Erythritol has no effect on glucose or insulin levels. All Halo Healthy Tribes products use Blossom, an all-natural plant based proprietary sweetener that is part Erythritol and part monk fruit.
Allulose is a natural low calorie sugar with the same clean, sweet taste you expect from sugar. Allulose is classified as a “rare sugar,” because it is naturally found in small amounts in foods including figs, raisins, jackfruit, molasses, brown sugar and maple syrup. Like glucose and fructose—the two components that make up sucrose, or table sugar, it is a “monosaccharide,” or simple sugarallulose. It is less sweet and digestible. Because it is a monosaccharide or simple sugar, allulose is absorbed by the body, but not metabolized so it is nearly calorie-free. According to the FDA, allulose has little to no effect on blood glucose or insulin levels. It is FDA approved.
Glucose comes from the Greek word for “sweet.” It’s a type of sugar you get from foods you eat, and your body uses it for energy. As it travels through your bloodstream to your cells, it’s called blood glucose or blood sugar. It mainly comes from foods rich in carbohydrates, like bread, potatoes, and fruit. As you eat, food travels down your esophagus to your stomach. There, acids and enzymes break it down into tiny pieces. During that process, glucose is released. It goes into your intestines where it’s absorbed. From there, it passes into your bloodstream. Once in the blood, insulin helps glucose get to your cells.
The glycemic index is a value assigned to foods based on how slowly or how quickly those foods cause increases in blood glucose levels. Foods low on the glycemic index scale tend to release glucose slowly and steadily. Foods high on the glycemic index release glucose rapidly. Low glycemic index foods tend to foster weight loss, while foods high on the scale help with energy recovery after exercise, or to offset hypo- (or insufficient) glycemia. Long-distance runners would tend to favor foods high on the glycemic index, while people with pre-or full-blown diabetes would need to concentrate on low glycemic foods.
